Crafts Fairs

Wouldn't you know that my camera decided to quit working during the Pregnancy Resource Center East (Baytown) Spring Crafts Fair last Friday. I'm sure you are tired of pics of me in my Grandma's On the Go Shirt, but I tried to liven things up with pics of venders and shoppers. Oh well... The Baytown Sun had a nice article about the fair and featured a photo of me from last year. I was surprised and pleased, to say the least. The fair was well attended and hopefully gained financial support for the wonderful work of the center. A well deserved "Thank you" to JoAnn and Gail for a job well done. On Saturday , I had a booth at Art in the Park in Orange. This was another successful day for book signings. I only wish I'd been able to leave my booth and peruse the rest of the venders. The day was warm, no rain, but the wind teased my tent until I had to take it down, thus getting a little sunburned. The Lord provided book sales to add to the gas coffers for my summer trip to Alaska. I'll be visiting my son, Chris and his new son and family in Fresno on the way north to volunteer for VBS and at Camp Baldwin. I'm looking forward to "paying my way to work for free" for the Lord. The camera? Just needed new batteries even though it didn't alert me to their demise.

Costco Signings

I have held book signings the last three Saturdays at three different Costco stores in Houston. Sales have been varied but the time spent on my feet and trying to engage prospective readers was worth it.

I was amazed at the number of customers that spoke little English; Muslims, Orientals and Asians seemed to outnumber English speakers in the three stores, even though the stores were in afluent areas. Unfortunately that affects sales.

A few prospective readers asked about e-books. Many shoppers said that they didn't like to read. Hopefully that was just an excuse to hurry on with shopping.
I enjoy engaging in conversations with people but I am not the sales man my father was.

We writers are aware that promotion and sales of our books are our responsibility, not the publisher's. That said, I wish to thank Publication Consultants for arranging these signings.

This Friday I will be signing at the Pregnancy Resource Center East's spring Crafts Fair in Baytown.

Saturday I will be signing at Art in the Park in Orange. Come on by and buy!!

Proud Grandma

My grandson, Devin, graduated from the Air Force Technical Training
School at Goodfellow Air force Base in San Angelo last week.
This proud grandma drove from Beaumont to attend.
Before the graduation we visited San Angelo State Park where Devin and I enjoyed a hike. He is an avid photographer as well as computer geek.

Devin received an award for Academic Excellence. He was chosen Senior Chaplin's assistant, and received an award for outstanding performance
in his field of Geospatial Intelligence Analyst. He is being deployed to South Korea where he will be working with the unmanned Preditor surveillance aircraft.

Graduation exercises took place in a large auditorium with very low lighting. Few lights were on the stage and it was extremely dark, therefore these pictures had to be enhanced and are grainy. Devin is the second in line in the photo below.

It doesn't seem possible that my grandson is so grown up!
